Learn the different ways you can record Xbox party chat on Xbox One or Xbox Series S|X for use in streams, YouTube videos, and other content.

Have you ever wonder how to record party chat or include party chat in your gameplay recordings using your Xbox? With help from XboxDIY’s very own Xbox Tutorial, you can find out how.

For streamers and YouTubers, you might find the need to include party chat in gameplay recordings from your Xbox gaming sessions. Whether it’s a competitive session or game walkthrough, having this ability will cut down hours of effort and enhance your production quality.

The problem is the built-in Xbox recording does not include the ability to change audio recording inputs. Since it’s limited to recording game audio only, you’ll need to change some settings and also use an external capture card to properly record party chat and audio.

Fortunately, these tips and tricks typically apply to the Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. There might be some OS and console-specific nuances, but it’s generally the same approach, even on other systems.

Let’s look at the best way to record party chat.

Step 1 – Changing Your Xbox Audio Settings

The first thing you’ll need to do to record party chat or audio on your Xbox is make changes to some audio settings.

To solve this problem, you’ll need party chat audio to come out of your TVs speakers instead of your headset.

To do this, navigate to your chat settings and make sure ‘Party Audio through Speakers’ is checked. This will make sure party audio comes out of your TV speakers.

Once your audio settings are updated, you’ll need to verify you can record party chat by testing it using your capture card and updating some settings on your capture application.

Step 2 – Record Party Chat with Your Capture Card

Now that you’ve changed Xbox audio settings to ensure party chat is playing from your TV, you’ll need to start your capture card software to record party audio.

When recording with your capture card software, make sure your audio settings are enabled and the correct input is selected.

If you’re looking to include your own mic audio while also recording party chat on your Xbox, we’ll show you how to do that too.

How to Include Your Own Mic Audio While Recording

If you want to include your own mic audio in a gameplay recording with party chat, make sure you follow these steps:

  • Make sure you have a compatible Xbox One stereo headset
  • Update the audio input settings on your capture card software and select your Xbox One headset

The audio from your own mic and the audio from party chat should not conflict or overlap. Make sure your TV audio is low enough that your headset doesn’t pick up the sound.

After updating your settings, you should know how to record Xbox party chat using a capture card.
